Chapter 19-Ella Richards

Chapter 19     By: Ella Richards     This chapter of the book talks about making sure that you are getting the right amount of sleep. Rath says, "The less you sleep, the less you can achieve" (Rath 140). If you do not get a good night's rest then you will not be as productive the following day. This is because your energy levels will be low, due to the fact that your energy did not have time to recharge enough. Quality sleep is about seven to eight hours every night. I am usually a person who will go to bed early and get up at a decent time. I used to always get about eight to nine hours of sleep each night. As I have grown older, I have not been able to sleep as well. I can definitely see the change in my work ethic because of that. I have been tired throughout the day and been having trouble getting my work done somedays. Hopefully, over break, I will be able to get my sleep schedule back on track and get those seven to eight hours of sleep every night! Getti...

Chapter 18-Ella Richards

Chapter 18     By: Ella Richards     This chapter of the book talks about being more active than we are now as a society. I feel as though this topic is really great to talk about. As I have learned in class, the digital age is affecting people's physical and mental health. If people are always sitting down and not being active that is obviously going to cause someone to be physically unhealthy. People are always on their electronic devices today, and that can limit them for exercising and other things that they need to get done. I personally feel that I am always on digital devices for so long every day. That is my fault, I know I can put my devices down once in a while, but it has gotten hard to do. I am reliant on my phone and laptop for everything that I do. Now, as time goes on, I hope I am able to put my mobile devices down and get outside or even just do exercises inside my house. Hopefully, I will be able to spread this idea of getting up and doing phys...

Chapter 17-Ella Richards

Chapter 17     By: Ella Richards     In this chapter of, Are You Fully Charged , Tom Raths talks about eating healthier! I enjoyed reading the section that talks about finding food that changes your mood. I know when I eat healthier foods it puts me in a better mood because I am hopeful for what my future looks like. The food people eat every day affects their mood. If they decide to eat a bunch of fatty foods, they are not going to want to move, they will just be sitting around all day doing nothing. On the other hand, if people are eating healthier foods, then that may give them more energy. Choosing to eat better nutritious foods can improve your health and well being. This chapter has shown me how eating better can improve my mental and physical well being and the interactions I have with others!

Chapter 16-Ella Richards

Chapter 16     By: Ella Richards     In chapter 16 of the book, Tom Rath talks about putting your own health first. I find his statement to be especially true! I know for a fact my mom is always worried about the health of my brother and myself. She is always putting her family before herself, and I have always admired her for it. Although I think now because she works at a medical facility, she should start caring about her own health just a little more! It is a scary time to be alive, and everyone should be putting their own health first. People in society should be doing what they need to do to keep themselves and everyone else around them healthy. Rath states how your eating, movement, and sleeping all affect your health. Taking care of your body is important, and if I can keep myself healthy that is also going to help my family and friends stay healthy.

Chapter 15-Ella Richards

Chapter 15     By: Ella Richards     In this chapter of the book, Tom Rath talks about helping build other's self-confidence and how single interactions can have a life long influence. If you start assessing your goals early on in life, then the easier it will be to obtain later. For example, at a young age, I cared about my grades and always studied and did my homework. Every year one of my goals at the beginning of the school year was to have all A's and do good in all my classes. Since graduating high school, I am proud to say that I followed through with my goal every single year! I started planning my goal out at an early age, and because of that, it was easier to do. Rath also talks about when giving others feedback to try and make it as specific and sincere as possible. These two things can help another person grow and make the best out of their life. In society, I feel as if people often give "positive" comments, but they do not really mean it. If the p...

Chapter 14-Ella Richards

Chapter 14     By: Ella Richards      In chapter 14 of Are You Fully Charged, Rath tells the readers to avoid flying solo. He says, "The best moments in life rarely happen while you are sitting around alone" (105). I know when I surround myself with the ones I love, I am a much happier person. I feel as though when you are around people you care about, it brings meaning into your life. Also, when you are connecting with others it can bring a sense of happiness and wholeness to yourself. I am a much happier person after hanging out with people I enjoy and spend my time doing things I love. Obviously I am not going to be as joyful surrounding myself with people I do not like. Tom Rath brings up many good points in this chapter!     I also like how Rath talks about the desire to help other people. I really like this quote he includes in the book, "Remember that everyone is wired to get more of a boost from giving than from receiving" (109). I love g...

Chapter 13-Ella Richards

Chapter 13     By: Ella Richards     Tom Rath talks about the importance of putting your experiences first, rather than the material objects. Chapter 13 of, Are You Fully Charged , made me really think about my life experiences. As I reflect on my childhood, I can recall all of my happiest memories from softball. I spent almost 12 years of my life playing that sport. I made so many memories and long-lasting friendships. The girl who was supposed to be my roommate this year, I have known since I was 10. We played on the same softball team for four years and we only live about 15 minutes away from each other. Just thinking back on it, the friendship I made with her will still continue in our adulthood.           These happy life experiences that I have faced, feel much more sentimental than material happiness. Rath says, "You might get a small spike in happiness immediately after the purchase, but the excitement of buying that new ca...
