Chapter 11-Ella Richards

 Chapter 11

    By: Ella Richards

Chapter 11 of, Are You Fully Charged, is about starting off small and being clear. Meaning that if you want to make friends with someone in the workplace or anywhere, start off with small conversations, and eventually that friendship will develop! On page 88 of the book, Rath says, "But I have learned that making fun of myself is often the safest to do, given the risk of offending others in unfamiliar situations" (Rath). I personally find this quote to be true! I am that friend that is always trying to make others laugh and brighten their day. That usually ends up with myself or others making fun of me but in a friendly way. That is just how it has always been like! Especially when I am around others that I do not really know, I want to make a meaningful connection with them. If I can make a lasting impression on someone and then that develops into a friendship, that is good with me. If I am being honest, it took me a while to come to terms that I am that friend that everyone goes after (in a friendly way), when I was younger I did not really understand what was happening. As I grew older, I talked to my parents about it, and they told me that if I was not comfortable with it, I have to be the one to tell my friends to stop. I think that this part of my life has changed me into the young woman I am today. I am that friend that everyone can go to no matter what, and all my friends can trust me. Chapter 11, has taught me that the effort I put into my relationships can determine how long they last, and the meaningfulness of them.

Chapter 1-Ella Richards

My First Blog Post By: Ella Richards  In chapter one of, Are You Fully Charged, Tom Rath, tells the readers about his rare genetic condition that led to cancer and how that diagnosis made him want to live everyday to the fullest. I 100% agree with him. He says many times throughout the chapter that, "It's the little things in life that create the most meaning" (Rath). I think that this is true, because there are little things in life that can change someone's whole day. For example, if I am having a bad day and someone takes the time out of their day to say something nice to me or even a simple, "Hello", it makes me happy that other people care just a little. In my life, I feel as though I need to start creating more meaning in my life. Right now, I focus more on the big picture of things. I can start by not worrying about the big things in life, start small and work myself up! Like the quote from above, the little things in life do create the most meanin...

Chapter 6- Ella Richards

Chapter 6 By: Ella Richards     In chapter 6 of,  Are You Fully Charged? by Tom Rath he talks about how you should stay true to yourself and follow your own footsteps. He says, "Even in the worst situations, you can find opportunities for growth" (Rath). This statement really sticks out to me, because I can relate to it on a personal level. For example, when I do poorly on a test or exam I am upset about it for the first few hours. But with this I also find myself hoping for growth. I know for next time I need to study just a little bit longer and try and really focus on doing good.            This chapter made me really look at how I can create meaning in my life, by just following my dreams. I need to focus on what I want to do in life and what makes me  happy. Although making my parents happy is always a plus, I need to do what I think is the right choice for me. I should be following in my own footsteps. The same thing sho...

Chapter 5-Ella Richards

Chapter 5 By: Ella Richards     In chapter five of, Are You Fully Charged , Tom Rath wants the readers to focus on asking the world what it needs and how to create meaning when you are changing the world. There are three categories in which people have in their life. Interests, Needs, and Strengths.  Reflecting on my life, I realize that I put my interests before the needs of others and the world. I am still growing up, so I never really thought about putting the needs of others before myself. That was until I took a class in my senior year of high school called, Multicultural Studies . That class informed me about how other cultures were living around the world and just how privileged I am. I can now say, that I look at things in a different light now, and am more knowledgable about different cultures and issues that they face.          This chapter specifically talks about how people need to focus on the natural talent that they possess to...
