Chapter 7-Ella Richards

 Chapter 7

    By: Ella Richards

In chapter 7 of Are You Fully Charged? by Tom Rath, he talks about staying focused and not letting distractions get to you. I think throughout the whole book so far, this chapter is going to help me the most. He says, "By one estimate, the average worker loses 28% of each day to distraction" (Rath). I am someone who gets distracted very easily, and I probably lose more than 28% of my days because of how much I get distracted. Especially now, since I am attending college online and at home. I am much more susceptible to distractions. I try my hardest to put my phone down during class, and for the most part, I do not look at it. It is after classes when I should be doing my "homework", that I am checking my phone so much. As I reflect back on it, it is not healthy at all. Now in the Digital Age, everyone is on their phones more often and it is causing a strain on our mental health, by how much time we are using by being distracted.

As time continues, I hope to get better at putting my phone down and focus on the important things in life. Tom Rath says, "If you can eliminate a few small distractions that take up a great deal of your time, then you can spend more time on things that energize you and give you a positive charge" (Rath). I will definitely be taking this quote into my future and possibly even sharing it with my friends. To conclude, I believe that distractions are what make up most of my day, and hopefully, I will start to stay focused and start to initiate today!

Chapter 1-Ella Richards

My First Blog Post By: Ella Richards  In chapter one of, Are You Fully Charged, Tom Rath, tells the readers about his rare genetic condition that led to cancer and how that diagnosis made him want to live everyday to the fullest. I 100% agree with him. He says many times throughout the chapter that, "It's the little things in life that create the most meaning" (Rath). I think that this is true, because there are little things in life that can change someone's whole day. For example, if I am having a bad day and someone takes the time out of their day to say something nice to me or even a simple, "Hello", it makes me happy that other people care just a little. In my life, I feel as though I need to start creating more meaning in my life. Right now, I focus more on the big picture of things. I can start by not worrying about the big things in life, start small and work myself up! Like the quote from above, the little things in life do create the most meanin...

Chapter 6- Ella Richards

Chapter 6 By: Ella Richards     In chapter 6 of,  Are You Fully Charged? by Tom Rath he talks about how you should stay true to yourself and follow your own footsteps. He says, "Even in the worst situations, you can find opportunities for growth" (Rath). This statement really sticks out to me, because I can relate to it on a personal level. For example, when I do poorly on a test or exam I am upset about it for the first few hours. But with this I also find myself hoping for growth. I know for next time I need to study just a little bit longer and try and really focus on doing good.            This chapter made me really look at how I can create meaning in my life, by just following my dreams. I need to focus on what I want to do in life and what makes me  happy. Although making my parents happy is always a plus, I need to do what I think is the right choice for me. I should be following in my own footsteps. The same thing sho...

Chapter 5-Ella Richards

Chapter 5 By: Ella Richards     In chapter five of, Are You Fully Charged , Tom Rath wants the readers to focus on asking the world what it needs and how to create meaning when you are changing the world. There are three categories in which people have in their life. Interests, Needs, and Strengths.  Reflecting on my life, I realize that I put my interests before the needs of others and the world. I am still growing up, so I never really thought about putting the needs of others before myself. That was until I took a class in my senior year of high school called, Multicultural Studies . That class informed me about how other cultures were living around the world and just how privileged I am. I can now say, that I look at things in a different light now, and am more knowledgable about different cultures and issues that they face.          This chapter specifically talks about how people need to focus on the natural talent that they possess to...
